About Us

Empowering unemployed women through the circular economy, building sustainable futures free from violence.

Our Story

Our Beginning

The Safe Space was founded with a mission to provide comprehensive support to unemployed women affected by gender-based violence.

Statistics show that less-educated women face greater risks of physical violence, highlighting the urgent need for empowerment through education, financial inclusion, and entrepreneurship opportunities.

To understand this problem we have to observe that the rights of women are still not protected and recognised. Additionally, women are still treated unequally, with lack of security, limited freedoms, lack of financial inclusion and lack of access to entrepreneurship. These collective freedoms together form the pillars and backbone for making informed decisions, life choices and using our agency to act as women.

"She Trades" Business Incubator

Our models tackles waste through innovation and collaboration. We transform excess retail merchandise into opportunities for women entrepreneurs through our circular economy model.

How It Works

Financial inclusion and entrepreneurship through access into the Circular Economy – reuse and regeneration of merchandise and products in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way. Excess waste that companies accumulate can be reused and resold for profit. Transforming and uplifting disadvantaged women to become entrepreneurs.

The 5 R's Process

Our comprehensive approach to sustainable empowerment

Reducing waste and consumption
1

Reduce

Minimizing waste production and over-consumption by creating systems that effectively manage excess merchandise from retailers, including out-of-season stock and returned goods.

Reusing pre-loved garments
2

Reuse

Pre-loved and preowned garments can be reused. These second-hand garments our unemployed women can repair into new fashionable clothes, creating an outlet for charitable giving and conscious sustainable living.

Recycling deadstock materials
3

Recycle

Deadstock and excess merchandise received from retailers that is considered as waste can be re-made, repaired, recycled and resold instead of being discarded.

Women learning new skills
4

Reskill

Developing and reskilling unemployed women yields positive outcomes, enabling them to learn new skills and perform tasks well. Our collaborative partnerships contribute to accessing resources and skills.

Women entrepreneurs selling products
5

Resell

Financial inclusion and entrepreneurship through access to the circular economy. Women participate in our "She Trades" business incubator, learning to sell and generate profits in informal markets and communities.
